Check back on this page very soon, as we are in the process of planning some more fully organised training courses for your scouts.

Master at Arms

Arguably our most popular course. This is run onsite at Broadwater over a weekend. Participants complete not only the Scout Master at Arms award but also the requirements of the National Smallbore Rifle Assoc. Youth Proficiency Scheme. Scouts who pass will receive the scout activity award, certificate of attendance and the governing body award. Cost: £25, 12 persons per course

Climber Course

This weekend course covers all the requirements for the scout climber activity award. The first day is spent onsite at Broadwater covering the theory and basic skills on our climbing wall before venturing to a private quarry for the second day to get to grips with real rock. Scouts who pass the course will receive the activity award and certificate of attendance. Please note that this course is better aimed at those scouts who have already had an experience of climbing. Cost: £25, 12 persons per course

Leadership Training

This course is ideal for those Patrol Leaders who wish to take their skills further. This course places more emphasis on planning skills and the use of the Troop Forum. Real life challenges are also used to provide an element of adventure and realism to the course. All participants will receive a certificate of attendance. Cost: £25, 20 persons per course

A Patrol Leaders Guide to Camping

With its basis around the traditional patrol camp, this course covers Leadership training in a true camping environment. Scouts will camp under canvas in patrols with tuition being given in basic planning skills and those required of a Patrol Leader on camp such as laying out a campsite, organising patrol duties and using the campcraft skills taught such as fire lighting, use of cutting tools and camp cooking. Whilst doing this the patrols will also be taking part in an inter-patrol competition. All participants will receive a certificate of attendance. Cost: £25, 16 persons per course (Summer months only)

Backwoods Skills

This course is ideally aimed at leaders but can be tailored to scout level. Tuition is offered in the care and use of cutting tools, fire lighting and fire lays, making tarpaulin shelters and different ideas for backwoods cooking. This course can also be adpated for use as a specific workshop on a certain skill if required. This course will be run outdoors under canvas. Cost: £25, 16 persons per course (Summer months only)
